Summertime for most young people means a care free time that translates into fun and excitement. However, for many children this means life on the streets during the day with no supervision, which of course can lead to trouble. Many are forced to fend for themselves, as their parents, whose worlds don’t change with the time of year, hustle off to work in order to make ends meet.
At Camp Upward, we have found a BETTER WAY to beat the summer heat. Camp Upward gives young people, ages 5 to14, a chance to engage in eight weeks of summer recreational and intellectual activities such as:
•Two field trips (to provide new experiences)
•Arts and Crafts (to foster creative thinking)
•Leadership Skills (to teach initiative & group dynamics)
•Character Building (to support good morals & ethical behavior
•Performances and Speeches (to inspire through testimonials)
•Sports Activities (to promote exercise and teamwork)
•Two hot meals a day (to ensure the body is well nourished)
•Non-denominational Bible Studies (to encourage spiritual growth)
•Peer Pressure Resistance Training (to teach independent thinking and decision making)
•Conflict Resolution (to demonstrate non violent results to problems & social situations)
• Job Training (to prepare our teen counselors for the future) |
